Joanna Reyburn May- November 2008
I wanted to re-edit these photos just a bit and re-share them. I feel like they are worth sharing all over again.
I took these election evening in 2008. Shelley Paulson took me out on our first real mentoring session to shoot portraits of our close friend, Joanna Reyburn May. It was a gorgeous November night with tall grass full of golden light (a few of my favorite things!). This session taught me so much about lighting and composition. Joanna, is such a natural model and so full of spirit. After upgrading my camera, and learning so much more since then, these photos still remain to be some of my most favorite.

Check out Joanna’s Wedding that Shelley and I shot in May of this year.
Joanna & Jason May Wedding
I remember the first time I ever saw Joanna, I had found her website via some friends. She had gorgeous art, beautiful film photography and gentle music. I loved how she wrote her heart out and most of all I thought she had such a unique beauty. I moved to Kansas City, and my husband began working with her through the ministry we used to hang out with. I remember walking into the offices and seeing her. I was super excited to get to finally meet THEE “Joanna Reyburn” It was an honor for me.
We got to know each other slowly and spent a hand full of times together. I regret that I didn’t get to know her better before I moved back to the Carolina’s. She became close friends with my friend/mentor Shelley Paulson. And during my time in Kansas City she started dating Jason. He had been an incredible dancer for a ministry and had just recently put out an album. http://www.jmaymusic.com/ They are a perfect unique match.
They got engaged and asked Shelley and I shoot her wedding.
On May 1st, they got married in somewhat of a barn that had been turned into a venue. It was perfect for them. We also took them out on a day after session to the Longview area. Gorgeous bride, gorgeous groom, and fantastic light. I’ve been super excited to get to share these photos. Joanna’s dress is from the designer La Sposa. (in case I had some girls wondering)
Congrats Joanna and Jason! Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your day!
Enjoy…

Now the day after…..

this is my favorite of Joanna.

Elysse & Michael Engagement
I’ve known Elysse since she was fourteen and I was seventeen. We met at “TheCall School” in Pasadena, CA. She has carried the most tender heart with such a grace about her for as long as I have known her. Her family is very, very dear to my heart… they’re some of my very favorite people. I’m so excited for her!
I met Michael at a coffee shop where I used to work. I got to know him better when Elysse started dating him. They are such a perfect match!
Two weeks ago when I was in Kansas City, I took them out to the Longview area. It was a lovely, windy evening. Elysse and Michael are getting married at the Longview Mansion in October.
Aren’t they such beautiful people?

A Tea Party
Before I left Missouri to move back to the Carolina’s, Brandon’s grandma, mom and sister invited me to a quaint tea party. Grandma Sharon spent days working on making it super special for us all. It was so fancy, and lovely.

Annie Peterson
So Annie was a girl that I didn’t get to hang out with enough. When I saw her, she glowed with a big smile and her bright red hair was brilliant. She makes a room light up. I would describe Annie as a gentle dove with a big smile. I miss her. =(
My mentor, Shelley Paulson, and friend, Joanna Reyburn, went on a little photography trip around Longview, MO. We had a gorgeous July evening and Annie was our model. I love these pictures. She’s so incredibly beautiful.
