Ashley & Scott 14

Ashley is one of the greatest joys in my life. (I’ve known her since we were both super, super young) Whenever I see this girl (which is like once every two months-ish) I am immediately safe in my own skin, and free to be myself around her. A year ago yesterday, she met a strapping young man at a Krispy Kreme race (run 5 miles, eat a dozen donuts, and then run 5 more- or something like that.) He was a kind, English man who stole her heart, and transformed her current situations. He won her over time and time again. I loved being kept in the loop of their first dates (with the “What should I wear?” texts, and pictures of different outfits.) He took her on “glow in the dark” golfing at night, in the pouring rain as their first date. He planned out special trips to the zoo, and the finale of taking her on a crazy, amazing trip around NYC a week before Christmas. He gave her 6 or 7 clues which took them to the top of the Empire State building, ice skating in Central Park,  an amazing restaurant overlooking all of NYC, worlds best cup of coffee (From the movie “Elf”) and then he proposed to her with a bright green emerald ring in front of the Rockefeller Christmas tree. Scott is an absolute joy to be around. They are madly in love, and I cry thinking about it. The Lord has proven his faithfulness to Ashley by bringing Scott into her life. Photographing them is like eating my favorite candy. I’m not kidding. Its easy, its gorgeous, its perfect, and I could seriously photograph them for hours and hours and it wouldn’t be work.

I am shooting their magnificent June wedding. And I am going to cry like a baby the whole day. <3

So about this shoot… Saturday, I took them to a friends/family piece of property, which is like a photographer play ground. Old beautiful house, open fields, bird houses, porch swings, large boulders, wheat fields, woods, ivy, Lake Norman. I mean…. sigh. I was in heaven. It was super, super cold. (Thank God I wore my leggings under my jeans) and Scott and Ashley took it like heros. The sky was cloudy, then sunny, then golden, then blue, then dark. It was fun.

Thank you to my amazing husband who stood in 10-20 minute increments out in the cold to hold my lights and all my stuff. <3 (You are the best!)

I am in love with these photos of them. And I had a really really rough time picking what to share. I did a workshop recently with my friend Shelley Paulson, and Ashley and Scott were our models.  So if you’ve seen them before, thats why.

Congrats Ashley and Scott! I love you both so, so much! Happy Engagement!

I’ve known Esther for forever. She was my brother and my best friend growing up. Our parents were extremely close. We spent four nights a week together hanging out at each others house. Its been amazing to watch each other grow up, get married, and now (I) have a kid. Esther is a brilliant person. And I love her deeply. She will always be one of the closest people to my heart.  Here is her and her husband right before Christmas.  read more

Ash & Scott 1

Last weekend I had the incredible honor to get to once again learn and shoot with Shelley Paulson who has been my photography mentor the last 4 years. Shelley did a workshop with a few ladies from North/South Carolina that she has mentored for a while. We spent time shooting in peak fall in all kinds of different light/different times of day. We learned poses, we were critiqued, we spent time learning off camera flash (which is a scare for me!) and laughing so hard together. It was seriously an amazing time of learning from Shelley and from each other. Our models were some of my friends Ashley and her boyfriend, Scott. And we also shot photos of my neighbors (who are married already) Josiah and Nicole. We ended our evening by doing a mock reception in a parking lot, playing “Gangnam Style” on our iphone while three cameras and a flash shot us all being ridiculous. It was seriously the best wedding I’ve been to. ;D I seriously didn’t know how to not share so many photos… so bear with me. ;D

So today I got to photograph Elizabeth Anne and Drew’s wedding… (blog coming soon.) ;)  (See their engagement session here.) Back in March, Elizabeth Anne and I picked a weekend where the peach orchards were in full bloom to do some bridal portraits of her. I looove the pink trees… nothing like a gorgeous bride in the middle of an orchard. oh man! I’ve been waiting so long to share these with everyone! The beautiful gown she is wearing is a Vera Wang. (ooo lala)

Enjoy! ;D

I thought I would share a few photos we took back in December for our Christmas card. I took a few of my Brother, Sister in law, and sweet nephew Káel. They snapped a few of us together.

My dress I’m wearing was my great grandmother best Sunday dress. Isn’t it so lovely?

I hope you enjoy these! ;)

Leah 1

Joel and Laura Teel are close friends of mine. I’ve known Joel thirteen+ years and he’s always been a big brother and a dear, dear friend to me and my brother growing up. His character has always been very consistent in our friendship. We shared so much of our childhood and teen years together, that its fun to reminiscence together.

I had the privileged to be able to photograph Joel and Laura’s little girl, Leah Rose. She is a two and a half year old full of energy and life. I would also dare to say she one of the most beautiful little girls I’ve ever seen.  Leah kept me on my toes for about an hour and a half, as I chased her with my camera through tall grass and woods at Colonel Francis Beatty Park in Matthews, NC. She would not sit still, not even for a moment. She was always finding leaves, sticks, stones, and flowers to pick up. So adorable.

This was my first time photographing this age, and I was sore the next day from bending up and down and crawling on my hands and knees. I was also able to catch a few portraits of Joel and Laura. ;)

I hope these make you smile.. ;) read more

I have known Joe since I was born. His family has been super close to our family for forever. I remember having nerf gun wars in Joe’s basement with my brother and his brother, Steve. We also played 007 golden eye till late into the night, when our parents would talk for hours.

I met Angela on a mission trip back in 2002. We spent about four weeks together that summer, and we did just about everything together. I laugh hearing Angela laugh, it cracks me up.

Angela and Joe met on a mission trip to the United Kingdom a few years later. They met, fell in love, and married all within a year. Joe is a history teacher in a high school and Angela is in college working hard. They both are from up north and I’m hoping that the Carolina sunshine might persuade them to move a bit closer. ;) I so love them, I couldn’t be happier when Joe and Angela fell in love. It is absolutely perfect.

Angela emailed me a few months ago and told me that her and Joe were going to be in North Carolina for a wedding and they wanted to see if I could take some fun romantic photos of them. I was super excited!

I found an old burnt down camp ground that I pass everyday and behind it was tall grass, and on a bit of a hill. We started here and ended at the peach orchards by my house.

I’m excited to share these!

I love you Angela and Joe! ;)
